Innovative Insect Management Solutions

Farmers have the biggest job on Earth – feeding, clothing and fueling a growing population while looking after nature and the land. That job is complicated through a variety of challenges that threaten yields, including harmful pests.

Damage caused by destructive pests can threaten plant vitality and compromise a grower’s yield potential for today and tomorrow. Beneficial insects, in contrast, can provide value to crops through pollination and insect management.

This is why at BASF we take an intentional and balanced approach, delivering innovative, effective insecticide solutions to growers that target damaging pests while being compatible with beneficial insects when products are applied according to label and stewardship instructions.

For more than 150 years, BASF has been solving problems with our chemistry expertise, which has never been more critical to meet the challenges of growers today. BASF is committed to bringing growers new insecticides, biologicals and pheromones that are compatible with beneficial insects, while also incredibly effective.

What are insecticides?

Insecticides are a crop protection tool used in agriculture to manage damage caused by harmful insects, either by exterminating them or limiting undesirable or harmful activities.

Why are insecticides important?

Insect populations continue to evolve and grow over time, causing tremendous crop damage and yield losses around the world. In the soil and on the plant, chewing, sucking and piercing insects threaten farmers’ livelihoods and cripple the crops that are critical to sustain a rapidly growing population.

As essential tools for controlling insect pests, insecticides improve the quality of life for humans, domestic animals and livestock. BASF offers a broad portfolio of innovative solutions to growers that help maintain the health, quality and yield of their crops.

How are insecticides used?

Insecticides can be broad spectrum or selective and can be delivered via trait technologies, seed treatments, and soil and foliar applications. Insecticides contain active ingredients that control or repel pests via a specific mode of action. The mode of action is the functional or anatomical change that drives a desired behavior or result. To prevent growing resistance to insecticides, it is important for growers to rotate insecticides that use different modes of action.
