BioSolutions by BASF

Biologicals help farmers meet society’s ever-growing demand for sustainably grown food while supporting and protecting plant health. Discover how our biological control portfolio, BioSolutions by BASF, can be the key piece to success.

What is biological control in agriculture?

Biological controls in agriculture are generally defined as crop protection and seed treatment products that are derived from living organisms. Examples include bacteria that protect against plant pathogens or beneficial nematodes that protect plants against insect pests.

Benefits of biological control

  • Due to their positive environmental profile, biologicals are safe for users and consumers, typically leaving little to no residues after use.
  • By introducing natural predators as a form of bio insecticide, they will continue to flourish, keeping pest numbers at a manageable level.
  • Biological controls are more target-specific, having less or no effect on other beneficial insects.
  • Biologicals serve an alternative tool for resistance management.
  • By utilizing effective natural partnerships, biological solutions can enhance plant health and help maintain the right balance of local biodiversity.

A portfolio of alternative crop protection

Bio Fungicides
Our Bio Fungicides help growers meet sustainability challenges by applying different modes of action to control a broad spectrum of plant pathogens, across a wide range of crops, in a natural way.
Pheromones
Using our pheromonal solutions in agriculture equips growers with a radically different and highly sustainable form of insect control, helping optimize crop yield by disrupting insects’ mating patterns; and at the same time, helping preserve biodiversity and ecosystem balance.
Beneficial Nematodes
Our world-leading biological insect management portfolio is based on a variety of beneficial nematodes, which provide curative and preventative control by invading, attacking and killing an extensive range of targeted pests.
Bio Seed Treatment
Our powerful lineup of innovative biological seed treatments provides plants with beneficial tools for an optimal growing environment, while protecting young crops from some of the most damaging pests during their critical early development.
Bio Insecticides
Our Bio Insecticides offer growers an effective and flexible alternative form of pest management, while sustainably protecting non-target organisms and the environment.
