Hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, COP26 is the 2021 United Nations climate change conference. It brings the governments that have signed the UN Framework Convention of Climate Change together, to discuss how to jointly address climate change. COP26 has a unique urgency. To achieve the Paris Agreement and limit global warming to below 2 degrees, the global community must take action now.

As BASF Agricultural Solutions, we are supporters of the Paris Agreement. We are committed to support farmers to become more carbon efficient and resilient to volatile weather conditions and have set ourselves the target to achieve a 30% reduction in CO₂ emissions per ton of crop produced by 2030.

The transformation of the agri-food system towards more sustainability requires trust and collaboration across sectors. Therefore, we are honored to actively participate at COP26 to talk with partners about the climate-smart solutions of the future.

Soil Health Programme

COP26 will see the launch of the Global Soil Health Programme, a global consortium led by the Universities of Glasgow and Sydney and including BASF, Bayer, UPL, Shell, RaboBank, Microsoft and PWC, together with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The Global Soil Health Programme seeks to implement a global framework for the improvement of soil health and the sequestration of carbon in soils.

For the COP26 event “Restoring the health of the world’s soil at scale and on time” we are delighted to welcome Professor Rattan Lal (Ohio State University), Ronald Vargas (UN FAO), Leigh Ann Winowiecki (Coalition for Action on Soil Health), Arlene Cotie (Bayer Crop Science), Jonatas Alves (UPL) and Andy Beadle (BASF), who will outline the vision and activities of the program. The hybrid event will be open for both physical participants as well as online.
